The terrain is flat and the day will be a balmy 2C - we will have fun"

March 9 Moonlight hike

Let’s meet downtown in front  the Supreme Court building at Wellington for 6:30 pm sharp and carpool/caravan from there to P15. The current forecast for Friday is -1/-7 with flurries – perfect temperatures for a hike.   As many of you will recall, this Gatineau trail is thick and compacted and so it will not melt away from the two days of warm temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday. Walk with snowshoes or crampons for your boots, if you have concerns about it being a bit icy.  Trailhead at 1960 Scott street (613-725-5259) rents snowshoes, but I am not sure when their season ends.  That being said, a good pair of hiking or rugged winter boots should be just fine.  We did this hike a few weeks ago and no one used snowshoes. Dress warm and in layers – preferable not cotton as your first layer, since once it gets damp from sweating you will start feeling cold and it will not dry out quickly.  Walk with flash light, glow sticks, head lamps, and so on to help light the way.  As usual walk with water.  We are planning to eat at the chalet so bring a snack/dinner, hot chocolate, hot cider, mulled wine, etc..  If you have food that needs warming up, wrap it in foil and we can place it on top the wood stove.
